things i made: DIY home decor edition

To save money and infuse my personality into my place, I decided to make my own pieces or use things I already had on hand. The above shot is of the entryway. A old tray from a secondhand shop holds all the things I may need to grab before I go out the door (purse, keys, sunglasses, etc).

I painted some branches bright pink awhile ago for no good reason but I couldn’t bring  myself to ever toss them. I filled a vase with rice from the kitchen and placed one of the branches inside…with the addition of a small toy dinosaur…just cause :) And the “poster” is actually a piece of decorative paper/ wrapping paper.

I also scanned some drawings from my sketchbook to vectorize them. Then I printed out the vectorized files creating small prints to hang. Can you tell I am really into positive words? especially in my living space? I guess some visitors may find it strange that I have so many inspirational works displayed but I find it comforting.
One of my bathroom walls is also completely covered by a mirror so I printed out one artwork reversed–so when you are looking directly at the piece it won’t make sense but when you turn around and look in the mirror (to do your hair, brush your teeth, etc..) you will see the above compliment. :)

I know some friends are going to find that so cheesy but I think it is genius!

Have a great weekend! Or if you are a fellow Canadian…happy long weekend! :)

Things i made: Girls Do It Better.

Hi guys, I am trying to start using Illustrator to vectorize my work to create some posters for my new place, here’s my latest sketch tweaked in Photoshop & Illustrator. I haven’t completely figured out vectoring my coloured sketches but so far, so good!

Also, you may have noticed that the Monday links and Thursday creative prompt posts haven’t been consistent lately. I am debating on whether or not to continue doing them or change up the scheduling…any thoughts?

things i saw: Illuminares Lantern Festival

On Saturday, my friends and I went to the Illuminaire Festival at Trout Lake. The festival is organized by the Public Dreams Society, a non-profit group composed of artists, artisans and performers who aim to create unique creative experiences. We came rather late but I managed to snap some photos before it got too dark.

There were lots of costumed performers wandering around the park.
